DSHS is recruiting persons licensed to practice medicine in Texas, including physicians who are board certified in medicine, psychiatry, neurology, physical medicine, or ophthalmology.

The Medical Advisory Board (MAB), supported by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), assists the Texas Department of Public Safety in determining whether licensees for driver’s licenses are medically capable of safely operating a motor vehicle or school bus.  In addition, MAB members review concealed handgun license applications to determine if an applicant or holder of a license is capable of exercising sound judgment with respect to the proper usage/storage of a handgun.

Currently, DSHS is recruiting persons licensed to practice medicine in Texas, including physicians who are board certified in medicine, psychiatry, neurology, physical medicine, or ophthalmology.  Some current MAB members are unable to participate in reviews because they are responding to COVID-19.  If you are not involved in your community response and have time, your help is needed.
